Sick Joke?

So, was it all a sick joke then? A blind man asks for help for people to read his favourite books onto tape or CD and to come onto AB and say they will and after the initial contact, disappear without any reason why! I am that blind man and though I have had to say a sad sorry to one reader, I have two brill people doing their best and one who had a cold and was waiting till they got better...but even that person has not been in contact since. So what have I done wrong? Not mentioned how much money it would cost?...I will pay if it has to come down to that, but civility would at least demand some kind of response, even if it was 'no, I made a mistake'. Just think about something you love so much but cannot have, but there is a chance if you just asked and that is what I did and the minority speaks louder than the majority, the majority of those who said they would be interested. This sounds bitter, for which I am very sorry, but the facts speak for themselves. Thank You and Goodnight...Ta Muchly.

Tamborine, sorry but woodelf does want emphasis, dialect, and character voices, he's also quite particular about the microphone used, in case there's any muffling, sorry, I just could not cope! would have been happy to just read a book, and tape it for him! But that was just not going to be good enough, I have downloaded a programme to my laptop, which should be fine, but after testing it, it's not brilliant really, I feel bad now, but I just couldn't see me coming up with what he wants!...................

Panic, I type as you would, but I have this speech system which reads out every key I press....boring...so I can shut it off just to read words and it reads back to me almost everything you can see on a screen. Okay B00, I look forward to your mail. Please forgive me Karen.
Oh he'll love my broad Lancashire accent then, rofl!!
Thanks Woodelf, I understand now.

I bet you type better than me - I'm rotten at it.
No problem Woodelf. I will be in touch as soon as this cough goes. Take care and sorry for my mini strop x

Don't worry B00...but thanks a lot Welsh, nice to know through AB that you couldn't manage it, an email might have been nice - I think the words of Sir Thomas More are relevant 'I say none harm, I do none harm' - and apart from the beautiful minority, all I get is grief. Thanks Tambourine, that's okay.
Maybe the answer is to read a chapter, download it to Woodelf for approval; and go from there ?
Sorry woodelf, but I was waiting for help from my husband when he returns, but anyway, I felt that asking for a demo tape, and wanting me to change my voice according to the character was just too much to ask as an act of friendship in the end! I should have e mailed you granted! but didn't really want to say No to you! However, I do feel that if you hadn't asked for a demo tape, and the voice changes, and been so concise about the microphone, then things may have worked out differently......................Really sorry about not contacting you!.............but just too much to ask of me!...............Sorry!..............Hope it works out!....Would have liked to read Catweazel!...............but in my own voice only!..............

Oh dear - with a big sigh - I'm too picky for my own good aint I?...and here's these good people offering to do me a Great Favour out of the goodness of their hearts and all I do is pick, pick, pick when I should be bl**dy grateful. I sincerely apologise to anyone I have upset with my bitter and twisted words and Welsh, if you still want to, you can read Catweazle as you like and so can anyone else, no demos or owt like that. I will be replying to those who have mailed me soon.

By the way Barmaid, when did you work at rnib?...I worked there (GPS) from 1986-95.
Fingers crossed for you woodelf. And think on, if you get to desperation stage I'll do it for you, as promised (email).

Keep us updated, and you're lovely, so stop putting yourself down!

Any new paintings to show us?

Me lovely?...well, B00 after my recent diatribe I bet there are a few who have a different opinion...smile...though I hope not. I'll be answering your mail soon. As for new paintings, well there's nowt new on the website; yet but I could show or send you one that only a few (two) people have seen, it's a black and silver painting.

And Thanks for your support B00 - I won't make any jokes....!
That'd be lovely woodelf :-)

I'm actually extremely jealous of your painting skills, I can't paint, or draw or in fact do anything artistic, though I always wished I could.
Hi woodelf,

snags just directed me to this thread, I did reply to your last email with my address and haven't heard anything further and I've been checking it regularly for DVD deliveries as well as the book in question. I'm sorry if you think I've been ignoring you but I genuinely haven't revceived anything.

Hi China, your last mail said you were going to talk to snags about the recording set up and let me know...that's why I hadn't been in touch, but as it seems that I'm causing more crossed wires than a spider's web, I'll go and re-read your mail and what I sent previously, douse my head under the cold water tap and get myself together!
Ah... no worries! Maybe I'm getting crossed wires meself... I know he did an MP3 player or something for you recently and he's looked at my software too and I think it's all ok to do on the computer from what I remember but otherwise you're more than welcome to send the book, I've been expecting it, honest! :c)
woodelf - i had considered offering...but after reading all your demands and fussyness, and to be honest rudeness i was put off...you made out you were desperate for help but there were even a few people who offered who you refused for petty reasons!

i suspect that is why you didnt get your books

you should learn to be a bit grateful when completly strangers offer to spend their time to help you and lets face it, it would take hours.

you were given a gift of kindness as they felt sorry for you - and you threw it back in some peoples faces...being blind does not excuse this.

this whingey little rant/moan, only goes to prove my point
Hi woodelf - I offered but I never heard any more. I was only wondering about it the other, whether you'd already got enough people. I wasn't sure that I like the sort of books you do, anyway, I hoped you would be more specific - I find it hard reading books I can't take to.
Joko- Woodelf has posted a book to me which I'm going to read for him. I stressed that I wouldnt/couldn't do character accents, and I have to say he's been nothing but a gentleman about it all, and has apologised to me via email for his tantrum on here- we all do it from time to time don't we?

In all I'm quite humbled over his gratitude for something i've offered to do which quite frankly is nothing, and which we all normally take for granted- the simple pleasure of being able to read a book.

I can only imagine how frustrating it is not being able to read, this obviously spilled out onto this post by woodelf, but I must once again stress how lovely he has been to me via emails, a true gentleman and one which I'm honoured to help out.
boo, im glad to hear that.

but the other stuff still happened...its clear in the other threads and from peoples comments

i dont mean to sound mean, but i just found it a bit cheeky...he should have snapped everyones hands off and been grateful for whatver he got...not demanding samples and demos and accents, and even singling a few out as though they werent suitable, and that people actually buy certain mics etc...
the job would already take people a good while and to make even more demands on their time was just unbelievable.

just because hes blind doesnt mean its ok...we would not take it from other people
i am glad he now sees the error of his ways though and is prepared to accept the kindness of strangers for what theyre offering..
