Like ChocClare said,Tom Marvolo Riddle after his dead muggle father who abandoned him and his mother when he found out she was a witch.That's why he changed his name,I think.

yes its tom marvolo riddle, tom after his muggle father and marvolo after his wizard grandfather. and one of the reasons he changes it is because he hated his father, but another was because he didnt want to be the same as anyone else and tom and a lot of people are called tom(this is revealed in the 6th book) hope i dont sound like a harry potter obsessive!!
