In order of the phoenix, the wording of the prophecy made it seem like both Harry and Voldemort have to die because one can't live while the other dies.  Did i draw the correct conclusion from this??  If so, how can Harry ever defeat voldemort without defeating himself as well???????

No - the prophecy says that Harry and Voldemort cannot both go on living, so one of them must die......
One of them must die for the other to live.
I think the ending will be that Harry has to die to kill Voldemort.

the traduction on French and Italian (readed both + the Original Version) is clear : Harry has to become the murderer OR the victim.
Well it maybe both too : like Rogue like to point out Harry got a great talent at breaking the rules and getting away with it, so a prophecie is nothing to him LOL.

J.K Rowling said, on her website, that she, and professor Trelawney both worded the prophecy very carefully. If you want to find an answer to your question, my advice to you is to compare Trelawney's prediction with the prophecy in book five and see if there are any resemblences. I hope that helps you find the answer.
