'Yes', says Miriam Margolyes who played Professor Sprout in the movies.  'Adults should get over it', she says. Well, I'm a fan and I've no intention of getting over it.  For lessons in life, it beats the bible (another book I'm quite familiar with) hands down!   How about you?  Are you a fan?

Whatever M Margolyes thinks about anything, it's fairly sure I'll be thinking the opposite.

A good kids' book is easily accessible to adults too. Whether it's Narnia, The Famous Five, His Dark Materials, Harry Potter or The Hobbit, adults can be whisked away to fantastic lands as easily as children. What I do agree with Miriam on is adults who obsess over the books. It's not real, and there needs to be done separation between reality and fantasy.

*some separation...

I've never read the books or seen the films - juvenile fantasy doesn't appeal.  I certainly wouldn't watch the films now their stars have turned their backs on J K Rowling, without whom nobody would ever have heard of them.

I was pretty disgusted by that too, brainiac.

Yes, I'm a fan & always will be.  I've read & re-read the books & seen all the films several times.  🧙‍♂️🤓

Me too, LiK.  Apart from the story itself, I love the psychology of it all, the interaction between the characters and the human emotion involved.  Love, hate, fear, loyalty, treachery, valour -  it's all there.  Other authors have been mentioned, most of which I've read, but in my opinion they don't compare.   J K Rowling is a genius.

I've not read the books or seen the films as that type of thing doesn't appeal to me - which can be a great disadvantage at a Quiz Night 🙁

Miriam Margolyes says a lot of things that annoy me. I've actually never read a Harry Potter or watched through a film myself but not only did my daughter love the books as a child so did my mother who read them avidly when in her 70s and thought they were brilliant.

I have also said repeatedly in my house - if you want to go on any quiz, even Uni Challenge or Brain of Britain level, you must learn all about Harry Potter. It is a question topic repeatedly.

Same with Game of Thrones Prudie

I haven't read or watched Harry Potter but do read Wind in the Willows every few years.

I kicked for ages against reading them.  I didn't want to read children's books, I said.  Eventually, with arm practically twisted up my back, I reluctantly began reading the first - nagged into it you might say - and that was that.  Hooked - and now forever grateful for my bully's persistence.  :o)))

I've never read, or seen the books/movies. I'm just not terribly interested.

What LiK said 😁

I've seen the first film and few bits of the other films, not read any of the books. I always considered it to be for children. My sons loved it when they were kids and now my grandson is into it. What makes me laugh though is grown men running around with broom up their jacksy playing "quidditch" !

No clue to what Harry Potter is about, and have little interest, even a lot less for the bible, in fact none at all for the latter after some thought it was a good idea to keep ramming it down my neck in my school days.

I'm not overly fussed about HP or indeed any particular work of fiction; but it's perfectly reasonable to escape reality and immerse oneself in fiction if one wishes. Obviously each will have an opinion on how far is too far, but live and let live may be a good maxim here.

//I've seen the first film and few bits of the other films, not read any of the books//

Same here. I think the films ended up as useful cameos for ageing actors?

Whatever M Margolyes thinks about anything, it's fairly sure I'll be thinking the opposite.

She has that effect on me too, LB.  Ghastly woman.
