His posters were produced using the lithographic process. This allowed him to replicate the look of Japanese woodblocks that he admired so much. But reproductions of his posters are more usually made using silkscreen since it's easier and cheaper than litho.
The really important aspect of Toulouse Lautrec's original prints is that he got directly involved in mixing the printers' inks so as to achieve the results he wanted, rather than just turning it over to the printers to produce. This pushed the envelope of print design at the time.
