by George and Weedon Grossmith. Have you read this book? Or seen it when it was on television? Is it any good? Is it actually funny? Or too dated?

Well as far as I'm concerned it's well worth a read and highly amusing. I guess it depends on the kind of literature you enjoy. Yes, it's dated, but then it's bound to be.

Thank you for your answer. I really enjoyed Three Men in a Boat, and that was dated, but it didn't spoil it at all.
Some humour just doesn't age well, so I was just wondering. But if you think it's funny, I'll give it a go.
If you liked TMIAB, you'll probably enjoy Diary of a Nobody. I read it as 'extra reading' to a study module on Victorian society and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's very funny - funnier than the dramatisation, even.

Thanks. I'll definitely try it. :-)
one of the funniest (not necessarily laugh-aloud funny) books ever, but you might not agree!
Question Author
I'm looking forward to reading it.
I thought it was just hilarious ...the episode with the red paint was laugh-aloud funny and not dated at all.
Read it , you'll love it.
Question Author
Thanks :-)
It is dated, but still relevant! I joked just last week with a colleague at work who bought a laminator, and went round the house trying to find things to laminate, just as Pooter goes round with his red paint daubing everything in sight from the doorstop to the enamel bath. I called my colleague Pooterish and he fortunately understood the joke!

It's deservedly a classic that bears returning to every few years, and still makes me laugh out loud.

I don't know anything about the story yet. Three Men in a Boat was really funny and charming, if it's similar to that, I'll love it.
And another very funny one is "A J Wentworth, B.A." by H.F. Ellis.

Thanks, will try that too
Hi notafish - also wanted to say if you enjoy the Diary, then try and get hold of a copy of this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mrs-Pooters-Diary-Blac k-Swan/dp/0552991171/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=book s&qid=1215462421&sr=8-1
It's a modern "sequel" which is equally funny - and good to see the same stories from Pooter's wife's point of view!

Thank you. That sounds good. I would like to read that after I've read the Diary of a Nobody. I have ordered it, but it's taking a while to arrive.
