Whilst travelling in Malta, I visited the island of Gozo on which I was informed by a tour guide that there is a cave, the end of which no expedition has ever reached?! Does anyone know if there is any basis of truth to this story?

If no one has reached the end, how do they know its the longest? I don't know about Gozo, but there are many cave systems that haven't been fully explored yes.
This chap here appears to have covered the area of caves quite extensively. Neither of his lists mention Gozo, or Malta for that matter:

WORLDS LONGEST CAVES

WORLDS DEEPEST CAVES

The simple answer to this is the fact that Malta's tourism industry has been in decline for years and they had to make up something for the gullible english to fascinate over....I reckon!
i went to malta and gozo last year, i loved it! did you visit the blue lagoon? it is without a doubt the nicest place i've ever been xx
