Leaf poem

I am looking for a poem I read years ago. I dimly remember something about the poet handing leaves out to people and his description of their assorted reactions. For some reason I think it's by Brian Patten but that is probably very wrong.

I think it is by Brian Patten, but it's a blade of grass, rather than a leaf.
Something along the lines of, "You ask for a poem and I give you a blade of grass".
Ring any bells?
