Outlook 98 will not close

I am using Outlook 98 on a Win NT machine, when I close it, it hangs on the Closing Microsoft Outlook box, I still get messages when new mail appears so it is still running even though I can not see the inbox or anything, just the closing box.....any ideas how to fix??
