There was a book by Myrtle Reed called Lavender and Old Lace. I don't know if this is the book the film is based on though.
A quick look on Google ("film" followed by "Arsenic and Old Lace" throws up a play: "Arsenic and Old Lace is director Frank Capra's spin on the classic Joseph Kesselring stage comedy". But I haven't the time to see if the play came from a book. shaneystar2's suggestion looks interesting, though.
I think my answer was way off !
I did find this--Arsenic and Old Lace - (1944-Black&White) - Film.Based on a book that was based on the Vera Renzi murders. So..if you can find that book that could be the answer..!

Oroboros - having read the question that I think you're trying to answer, are you sure that Arsenic And Old Lace is the work being referred to?
The Vera referred to is Vera RENCZI but whether this is the right tack to be taking...................
It looks like shaneystar2 is on the right lines but whatever charliep88 is on is probably illegal - or should be.
It was origanlly called Bodies in our Cellars.
