In my avatar I am holding a real gun, yes, the photo was taken a very long time ago. My late father had a gun and pistol collection and this gun was one of a pair. I can't remember if they were Magnums or Smith & Wessons. I know the photo is small but anyone hazzard a guess?
No Dave he was in the Canadian Airforce. These were definately not army pistols, he was a collector and did a bit of dealing. I remember there was a pair and they were sitting in a silk lined box. Don't think they were dualling pistols as I got the impression they were early 20th century.
Sharon ha ha you get the prize. We were dressed up (me and Dad) as bonny and clyde for a show & shine competition. The car, which you can't see is a 1947 Triumph Roadster. We could'nt of course have the pistol in the competition, the photo was taken beforehand.
Thanks sharon, I tease my youngest son because he's the same age as I was in the photo (20) and looks the spitting image lol! It was taken in 1978 by the way, not 1947 lol!
It actually does look like a Luger, APG. From what i can ascertain in such a small pic, the way you are holding the weapon indicates that the 'grip' is slanting backwards. I don't think S&Ws, nor Magnum grips did so.
'Magnum' is an indication of power level not a make or type of gun e.g. .44 Magnum is more powerful than .44.
It isn't a Luger which is a blowback semi-auto not a revolver.
It may well be a S&W but which model I don't know as the pic is too small.
He collected Smith & Wesson so more likely to be one of those models . Definately North American and pre WW11. I can't understand why there would be a pair, though my memory may be playing tricks.
