I'm overstating my feelings, but I do find them pretty awful. I don't understand the appeal of caterwauling cats, and 'saucy Jacks', and phantoms of the opera; all got laboured plots and casts of people who can't sing, dance or act very well.
Sorry everyone! :-)

i hear dave does an uncanny impression of brian blessed singing in cats
He did, Ael. I have stopped him. He probably won't ever tell anyone what I did to him to make him stop.
Warhorse and Matilda. You'd have to be odd not to love those.
The musical I enjoyed most was Return to the Forbidden Planet. Being a 'jukebox musical' it doesn't pretend to be a showcase for the writers' talents. Instead it simply celebrates the music of the sixties, with maximum energy and humour thrown in for good measure.
Lol Gness, I can imagine how they felt but a slight difference with going to see 'Evita' than watching somethong called 'Sweeny Todd' on the TV.
Musicals :(
The working man's wish to enjoy opera?

Reminds me of years ago when my widowed sister was given 2 tickets to a musical. She phoned to tell me and I asked who she was going with. You, she replied. My face fell.
Not everyone's cup of tea, but I personally love them. The last one I watched was Moulin Rouge, and it has to be one of my favourites!
You're right, Arky. We were delighted to find out what we could watch on TV during lockdown. Shows we'd loved. But it just wasn't the same and most we gave up on. You need to be in a theatre with all the atmosphere.
You'd have to taser me and drag me in Gness.
My taser gun's out of battery, Arky....but I bet I could think of other ways to drag you in.... ;-)
I enjoy musicals and have spent the weekend listening to Radio 2 musical weekend. Continues tomorrow. Took grandkids to see Joseph 2019. Sheridan Smith was the narrator. She was brilliant. Completely different staging from the nineties when I took my daughter. Interesting that a large part of the audience was grandmother with grandkids. Any one interested TV BBC 4 tomorrow night the story behind West Side Story before it's Broadway premier

Like an open free bar and some headphones ;-)

Who couldn't enjoy this?

Buen, I agree with you about Return to the Forbidden Planet. It was a fantastic piece of musical theatre.

I helped to have read The Tempest though. Brilliant interpretation we thought.
oh gawd Bye..
I'll buy, Arky...no headphones. You'd look silly.

Dave has the build for Miss Trunchbull but not Matilda, Roy and I'll happily be a Warhorse...nice to see you've cheered up...x
One of the most memorable and enjoyable evenings of my life, which I still look back on fondly, was my 12 year old daughter and I (she's now 17) going to see Hairspray. We both loved the film, so the chance to see it live was a must.

It was just me and my daughter, we went for a meal beforehand, we had a great chat over the meal, and absolutely loved the show.

Since then, we'll often watch musicals together, been to a fair number, and we've watched the classics on TV.

It's "our" thing, so I love them.

It's lovely to see so many people who enjoy musicals. I don't really like them, but they're not written for me. Enjoy, everybody. :-)
