In every edition of Private Eye, there are numerous requests in the small ads for money to help the person out of some kind of crisis.   Has anyone ever sent or received any such donations?

I posted this Q a few months back, it seems the short answer is no, not really.

Oh dear,I do feel guilty now.I have read "Private Eye" for years and always assumed they were spoofs!
I did it for a joke to see what would happen and did not recieve a penny. I said I wanted to take my girlfriend to a luxury 4 poster romance package suite for her birthday

AH, whenever i'm feeling skint, i always wish i had enough cash to put a suitably pitiful ad in there.

the answer has to be: if you put an ad in, and it yielded anything above the price of the ad, you'd carry on doing it for ever, and the mag would be the size of a phone book, full of begging ads.

so i guess no one gets any money from it...

it's a nice thought, though, and i would still like to try it.

:-)
