Yes, indeed Em, great stuff. It’s a book I can pick up and open at any page – and just read.

Similarly with Jane Eyre. No sex – but what passion!

//Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!--I have as much soul as you,--and full as much heart! . . . I am not talking to you now through the...

chi-chi you've got some great books there, especially The Pursuit of Happiness. I found The House at Riverton better than The Distant Hours, but both good. Didn't you do well ??? Happy reading.
EBay is a good place for inexpensive books. An old lady I know had been searching charity shops and second-hand bookshops for years for a particular out of print book - I found it on EBay. It's always worth looking there for any book you want.
Thanks Naomi...I do love delving in charity shops for them, I'm in no rush, I have stacks of books to read, I just collect them when I see or
hear of some. I would use E-Bay as the last resort. x

BlueScorpion - The Accident by Lynwood Barclay is only in 'large' paperback at the moment, the normal size paperback comes out early next month so I will buy it then. Something to look forward to !
I've just read "We Need to talk about Kevin" and it's soared to somewhere near the top of my list. I started to read it yesterday evening and couldn't put it down. Today it was pouring with rain, so I used that as an excuse for a spectacularly lazy day and I read the entire book. Very thought-provoking, brilliantly written. Although reviews talk about the shock at the end, there were a number of clues that led me to guess, but that didn't spoil it. Not a´light read, but well worth it.

Gregg Hurwitz - a great thriller writer has just got a new paperback out called The Survivor. He's up there with Lynwood Barclay.

Craft - finished reading Dead Tomorrow, what a truly fabulous book. There was even a glimpse of Sandy. As you have read all the other 'Dead' books, does Grace ever discover that Sandy is still alive ?
Not as yet he hasn't...............
Yes, I bought the Gregg Hurwitz one chapta..

Thanks craft - must get myself down to Waterstones and look for another one of his.

chi-chi - I hope you enjoy it, but sure you will !

Bought Martina Cole's latest paperback today 'Faithless', looking forward to getting my teeth into it!

Has anybody read an excellent book (imo) called 'Not Without My Daughter' by Betty Mahmoody? A true story about a desperate woman's plight to get her and her young daughter out of Iran and away from her abusive husband and his family. Very harrowing in places.
The best book I think I ever read was The Shining by Stephen King. I was 18, and like all 18 yr old boys thought I was Jack the lad, I was in my own bed and it made me scared to go to the loo :-)

No book since has given me such an atmospheric feeling, King is much under rated as a descriptive writer.

As an aside today I purchased Game of Thrones - stand back I am going in.
Usually the one I have just read!
The Larssen trilogy about the Girl with the dragon tattoo is amongst the favourites at present.
Female writer? perhaps The Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain or any Annie Proulx
Question Author
My favourite Stephen King book was definitely The Stand.
I really enjoy a lot of Stephen King's work - his latest "11.22.63" I thought was very good, but my absolute favourite is either IT or The Stand depending on my mood. I'm actually in the middle of re-reading IT at the moment underneath the horror it is a wonderful story about friendship
Mine is and will always be - To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
A Town Like Alice set during/after WW2. Written by Nevil Shute. He also wrote In the Wet, On the Beach and many more. Amazing books I return to again and again.
Question Author
