I've just finished reading wuthering heights which, although it was really good, was quite depressing!

Does anyone know of any good books, preferably modern ones for a change but maybe classics, that are uplifting but not too 'chic flic' style?

Cheers!

Try anything by Louis de Bernier or Isabelle Allende definetely not chic-lit but modern and not hard going.
