Book?

Whilst I was in Canada in the summer, I seen a book that look interesting but cannot remember the title.

it was set in the future and there is a mass epidemic of a disease causing blindness, which leads to segregation. then a bunch of people a man, dog, boy and maybe a girl too try to escape segregation.

has anyonbe got any idea what the book is?

i just found what I was looking for - Blindness by Jose Saramago, has anyone read it though? is it any good?
