Further to Spath's thread about the lady spy on bank notes, who do you think we ought to honour with a place on the notes? Both serious and flippant replies welcome. x

I think:-

Alan Turing
JRR Tolkien
Emily Bronte
Robert Thompson
William Morris

...and Vikki Pollard (yeah but no but) for fun x

I'd have Maxwell on the three bob note myself.

I want an author to be on it for some reason..

Lewis Carroll
Roald Dahl
Terry Pratchett
jk rowling

I'd want it to be the £5 though not the £50
I was going to say Jocelyn Bell Burnell, the astrophysicist, but I've just seen she was born in N Ireland. Might not be eligible.
Actually, don't they have to be dead as well?
Great choice, kval - esp William Morris, who, along with other Arts and Crafts luminaries I have a soft spot for. How about ALL the Bronte sisters (I think there's a portrait of all 3)
Charles Rennie McIntosh
Mary Anning.

Beryl Cook.
CRM has already been on the Clydesdale Bank £100 note, maggie

Yeah I love the arts and crafts movement GG, my house here is stuffed with designs of that style both original and inspired by x

Some good and interesting choices- I'd like to see Pratchett or Douglas Adams honoured as well Spath x
Several good ones above & a few off the top of my head would be -

Stephen Hawking.
Dylan Thomas.
Ada Lovelace.
Laurence Olivier.
Me too, kval - I live near where C R Ashbee brought his Guild of Handicrafts in 1902.
Don't know where you're based, but if you can get to near Guildford, I thoroughly recommended the beautiful Grade 1-listed Watts Chapel:

Lt. John Chard VC and/or Lt Gonville Bromhead VC
Del Trotter. VD and Scar
Hawkin would also make a good edition.
Mary Wollstonecraft
Grace Darling
Ada Lovelace
Rosalind Franklin

Ooooh nice GG I'll check that out next time I'm down your way.
We have a lovely W.R Lethaby church at Brockhampton-by-Ross which is worth a look as well if you ever venture to Herefordshire x

....and Joan Clarke
Some good suggestions from JTH
Question Author
Agreed, some excellent suggestions here x
Thanks, kval, that's a new one to me. Love finding new things!
Question Author
Yeah exactly GG, I've never seen Watts chapel so I will make it my business to have a look when I can- life gets in the way though so not sure when but I'll see it, it looks amazing x
I would also support the choice of Alan Turing. Edith Cavell maybe, Douglas Bader as an outside choice.
Douglas Bader. My childhood hero. Nagged Mum and Dad for a Blue/White polka dot cravat for Christmas back in the 50s
