I have heard a lot of good reviews about this author and will probably start to read his books. Are the books better read in any sort of order or are they seperate stories all together?

I have read all the books to date.I would suggest you read them in sequence starting with Killing Floor and then you will have a better insight into the character of "Jack Reacher"....But they are all good as a one off read.
Love love love Lee Child! Great reads, all of them. I agree with shaneystar - start with Killing Floor. I wouldn't read the latest one til you've read a couple of others. Enjoy!

I found Lee Child by chance, picking up a book in a charity shop as a buy one get one free deal. One of the best deals I've done.

He writes gripping adventure/action thrillers that I just don;t want to put down, can't wait to finish and feel sad when I do.

I suggest - like the others say - try to start with the early books.
