This was my 'O' Level English Lit subject........

But it was so long ago that I have no recollection!
It's EARNEST! Ernest would change the entire plot...
Why not go and see a stage production (it's probably being performed somewhere in the English-speaking world at this moment)? or buy a DVD of one of the films - my favourite is the 1952 film with Edith Evans as Lady Bracknell, Michael Redgrave as Jack Worthing, Margaret Rutherford as Miss Prism etc.

Miss Prism was his nanny/nurse.... She put Jack in the bag by mistake she meant to put in the romantic novel she was writing...
