The AnswerBank, in its current form, is one year old today!

I suppose there should be cake?

On this day, 12 months ago we relaunched on a new, solid and faster platform - albeit a little premature with a few bugs yet to be worked out.

Want to remember what The AnswerBank was like? Why not look here: http://web.archive.or...w.theanswerbank.co.uk

Here is what I am wondering though, on this auspicious occasion: have we changed for the better? Is there anything we're really missing at this point? What do you guy want from us in the future? Also, do we like being orange?

All the best,

Spare Ed

PS: This might be a good time to mention we're doing some further upgrades this week or next: http://www.theanswerb...g/Question933345.html

I feel the site is a little 'dowdy' compared to the link you posted which has a very 'fresh' feel to it. Having said that, too much self analysis is never a good thing. Remember a Camel is a Horse designed by committee.
I can't help but agree Count, it is getting a little staid now ED, I realize they were people who had to be removed and the team did well in doing that but there were also some who could have been given a stern warning who would have, no doubt , abided by it.
Still what do I know :-0(

Bobbi, I think C-A-S was speaking about the look, layout and the like.

Count, Do you think the "freshness" comes from the amount of white space in the old version? Personally I feel the update (which, techies being well should come soon) will perk the site up visually.

Spare.
Well I think it looks great. Happy birthday AB.
happy birthday - did i hear cake?????

the site is def better now (you get to see me in all my glory....) but the orange could do with changing
So do I Ed...it's way better than years back..

I remember the days when if a thread got over 1,000 answers it risked crashing the site...
Ed. That link doesn't work for me. I was interested to look at it as I am quite new to AB.
Ed, I think the fresh look comes from the white and the pale tangerine colours. Retro design is very 'now' maybe you should go full circle?
Question Author
Thanks all - it is good to hear we have not ruined it!

What if we just used reds? Maybe 5-6 reds in our palette across the whole site? And black, white and grey of course?

Is there anything you do on other sites that you think AB would benefit from? We've got lots of ideas for feature we think you'll like, but it is always nice to know what direction you guys think the site should be heading in.

I like the site as it is in the main, more cheery and colourful.

The default avatar blobby people could do with a makeover though, they are quite dowdy.

Can I save my cake till after lunch?

Oh and can we have bold/italics and underlines bacl please.
Ed, I think the AnswerBank has come a long way from what it used to be. The present colour scheme is definitely more appealing than the past black and grey appearance it had.
i'd like to be able to use diff colours/fonts/bold/italic etc but its not a huge thing
'but its not a huge thing'

I beg to differ bubble butt ;-p

The last time they allowed underlines and bolds and whatnot, certain posters abused it and made the whole site unreadable.
happy birthday to yous all
snags for the last time, you can't borrow my bikini insult me as much as you like i won't give in
The gathered ABers eagerly anticipate the arrival of a vanload of Champagne ...

... and the Ed says ...

... "I suppose there should be cake?"

Errrm, Ed ....... !

There is a danger of bold/underlines becoming a nuisance, but it would be nice to add emphasis occasional.

I would really like to stay away from the colouring though. Equally, animated avatars might make the place look insane!

Maybe a way to display picture in posts though? That might be nice.

Happy Birthday AB, by and large I think you've improved. Love the avatars. Really miss the preview and italic/bold fonts. A PM feature would be useful.
