When I used to put software discs into my laptop they used to run by themselves but for some strange reason they no longer do, as i am only a beginner on the computer I have no idea why this happened but have been told that ''Auto-run'' is more than likely switched off so how (in beginners terms) do I turn it on again.

You haven't said what version of windows you are using but this guide may help:

It shows how to turn the autorun off, so follow it but turn it on instead.

Sorry Sqarebear I suppose it would help to know. I use Windows XP.
Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties.
Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select whatever will switch it back on.

I don't have XP here I'm afraid.
