I've managed to avoid getting a cold for 6 months, but now have one. I've been told by Midwives, GPs etc that I can take Paracetemol, which I have been doing, but since I started taking them, I haven't felt baby moving as much.

Do you think it's really safe to take Paracetemol? You'd think the medics would know.

hi velvetee, i had a cold at around 5 months and it went on for weeks on end!! i didnt wanna take anything as i was worried, but the doctor said it was completely fine to take paracetemol, just plain paracetmol,

without sounding patronising maybe you are imagining it as you are worried about taking them in the first place, i have done it myself with my first child,
i felt sick one day, something i had ate, and my sister came round and started filling my head with rubbish stories about how me being sick means the baby is sick and its bad for the baby etc, i paniced so much and convinced myself the baby had stopped moving and went to the hospital, but i soon saw for myself she was ok lol i felt a bit silly afterwards! damn sisters!

but there is nothing whatsoever proven that paracetemol is dangerous to babies, but if you are worried dont panic, just pop in to the hosipital or give the labour ward a call and just explain you dont think the baby has moved as much today and they will book you straight in for a scan, just to put your mind at rest.

good luck - try not to worry xx
paracetomol is safe to take when pregnant. Dont take any decongestants though.

If you are concerned that baby isnt moving as much then call your midwife. She will probably tell you to keep a chart, and check for 10 movements in 12 hours (i think that the time frame) and then go from there.

i hope your cold lifts soon

Thanks. Perhaps he's just having a quiet day.
an ice cold glass of water and sitting quietly with your feet up is supposed to get a baby moving! hope you feel better soon, like the others have said paracetamol is fine - I was worried about taking it too whils pregnant and my gp made me feel very silly saying that women had been taking paracetamol during pregnancy for decades with no problems. so that told me lol!
Also, bear in mind that your baby's "mood" (for want of a better word) is also affected by yours. If you've been feeling rough and under the weather for a few days, the fact that the paracetamol is now starting to take effect will mean that baby is more relaxed now, too, so is probably just catching up on a bit of rest!

Paracetamol is perfectly safe duting pregnancy, but if you are at all worried please do speak to your Midwife to put your mind at rest. Hope you're feeling better soon!
