Christmas a problem

Christmas seems such a problem for many people I often wonder why so many go along with celebrating it! or rather why make all the fuss, have all the stress for a one day event. It's supposed to be a christian event though if Jesus is looking down I can't think him too pleased how people are celebrating his (supposed) birthday...
I'd go moreso for inviting different people over the Christmas season (say 18th to 29th) where gifts are exchanged and everything is in a more relaxed atmosphere rather than sorting out who's coming on THE day! This would mean Christmas Day is spent with just your partner and children as so many people wish. This would also help those who think that once the 25th is over there's an anti-climax (they could even come out with there new cardy on)
Could ABers who have problems at this time tell me what they think?

To me, Christmas is just a name for time when we celebrate light in a time of darkness and look forward to better days. Any other name would do as well. I don't think about the Christian aspect because I'm not one. However I do like to use the festival to take time out to tell and show people how much I care about them.

However, it does seem to have become an excuse for spending and it seems that unless you buy your kids heaps of expensive presents and are seen to be 'doing things properly' then it's not Christmas. It's as though the happiness of Christmas can only be measured by how much you spend on it and how drunk you can get during it.

I've certainly stopped making a huge fuss for Christmas. As long as I get some time to relax with my family, the rest of it can go sing. You can't relax if you're only bothered about how good your table or your decorations look, or whether you've cooked enough sprouts even though nobody likes them.
