An edit facility for spelling & also if you later don't like the muppetry answer that was first given.

I presume you mean, edit your own answers? You couldn't possibly be allowed to edit or delete other people's answers.
I'd like to be able to spellcheck after posting.
Better to have a preview pane BEFORE posting, then the possibility (? time limited) to edit after posting.

Or even both!
I would also like to have an edit/delete facility. You don't always notice your mistakes until after you've submitted.
SteveD's preview suggestion wouldn't work either - this site obviously has a gremlin in it who mischievously inserts spooling mistaeks into words after they have been posted - it would just wait until after the preview screen if there were one.
I agree, an post-posting editing facility would be excellent.
It should be possible to edit, however either time limited or until an answer has been posted. It wouldn't do if we could change questions after answers have been submitted - or would it...? Also a preview pane would be good. The tiny entry pane is too small to allow a decent assessment of what you have written. You can only see about 6 characters at a time.
....asked for about 2 years ago and still waiting.
with BenDToy on this one.
I've typed some answers so quickly that I miss whole words, or mispell (misspell?) them.

An EDIT/DELETE function would be really useful.
