the ed offended me by implying I do not know the difference between a statement and a question.

this is a question:
is a question not that far from a statement and really just about perception?

According to my dictionary, a question is a "sentence adapted by order of words, use of interrogative pronoun or question mark, or other means, to elicit information".

Accordingly, Dot, my question has to be this:
"Exactly what information are you trying to elicit?" ;-)

basically how much is this night shift ed earning ph AND IF IT IS NATIONAL minimum wage they are being done up like a kipper.
Question Author
Careful Dot!

If you post links to 'Mr Ed', you might be giving your age away :-)

oh dear, if they're being paid overtime, you know what this means... the AB platinum members' subscriptions going up again. That's twice in a year. And I'm still waiting for them to replace the cut glass decanter in the spring catalogue that arrived chipped. I may have to cancel and go back to level 1 membership, but then who pays for the night moderating?
Question Author
jno i am still waiting for the decanter.

I have to argue the point further that a good debate is not necessarily in response to a question, but can be triggered by a statement , therefore if I were to put a statement up and it generated valid answers, it should be quite acceptable.

I used to have a Mr Ed annual. My Mother The Car replaced it on UK TV though.
Hmm, I dunno Dot. My bank often sends me a statement (which elicits information) and I question my wife about where all our money has gone. She often doesnt elicit sufficient information. So does this mean that when I question the wife about a statement that the elicitation of information comes from the statement or the question? And who is right, me? Or the wife!
Question Author
You answered your own question there Octavius lol It is of course your wife, you men learn nothing do you? :))
The question " Who is right, me or the wife?" is a rhetorical one, as in all cases the answer is.... the wife! :o)
Question Author
Rhetorical questions should not be allowed on ab, they usually have an element of fantasy that promotes silliness. tut
Surely the correct answer would have been a simple no since the question was about me being right?

The bit about the wife was a statement.
Question Author
There is no correct answer to any hyperthetical or rhetorical question Octavius, and the question about whether your wife was right was neither, it is what is known as a fore gone conclusion.
So, am I right?
Question Author
Invariably no.

Octavius, the correct answer should have been a simple 'no', and don't call me Shirley! ;o)
Question Author
actually, on reviewing the email from the ed, the ed actually told me that some of my question had been edited because it was ' a (correct) statement' the ed's choice of words not mine, but infact the eds statement was not a correct statement because the question (statement) I had posted had not been edited in part, it had been banned. There is a big difference between part of it being edited because it is correct, statement or no, and all of it being deleted.
So what part of your statement is a suggestion? Doesnt look like a question to me so I would surmise it could potentially be in the right place? Even though this is a Q&A site. Perhaps your post was questioned because it was viewed as a statement, in which case this thread containing a further statement without suggestion or a question should be deleted also?

If one thing, the AB Ed is certainly consistent in inconsistency.
Or is that content in incontinence. (statement not a question?)
Question Author
good question Octavius.
Question Author
That is a statement, not an answer, nor a question even.
