Is there a change of policy on appropriate postings for this Topic?

On 22nd September .......

Please note that this category is only for AB Suggestions. If AB users continue to submit postings that are not relevant to this section, they will be potentially banned from the AnswerBank.

Thanks

As a new member, i just can't follow what is going on? I can find no follow up statement from the Ed changing the above?

for example ....
Someone is being impersonated ..... is the AB Suggestion Topic the right place for upwards of 200 comments to be made in 3 days?

I make the suggestion that the 'AB Suggestion' Topic goes back to being just that .... a Topic for suggestions to improve, develop etc this Site

Well if you're being such a stickler for the rules- surely your own post, bemoaning about other posts is against AB's policies???
imposters cause a lot of grief to the impersonatee (a bit like having a stalker)... this is the default section for bringing things like that to the AB Ed's attention, and the suggestion, I guess, is to horsewhip all imposters, though dot is too demure to say so.
one thing that really sticks in my craw is newbies telling other users how to behave and how the site runs.
to use the vernacular, it is pig ignorant, and no doubt i'll get a sarky comment in return but hey, this is cyperspace and we are all anonymous aren't we? lol
Stop whingeing, prospector, live and let live
whatever did happen to the site moto we all suggested eh cheeky?
But Dot, on the other hand what gives "Oldies" the right to bash "Newbies" on the head all the time? Just becasue they're green doesn't mean they can't have opinions.

As long as this category is called AB Suggestions, it should be just that.... A category to make suggestions about AB.

To report imposters and the like here only gains them notoriety which is exaclty what they want to achieve.

You can email the editor with details of any suspected imposters without have to name and shame here.
Hello,

I'm a "newbie" (as referred to above), but not green because the technical team had a problem with registration. It does make us appear to be green in life as well as on here, when we cannot have an opinion. Whether you have been on this site for years as opposed to days, surely does not give you the right to think you "own" AB. People come and people go, if you don't accept new bods you will end up with nobody to answer your questions.

After all, we are/were all new once.

Methinks the lady protesteth too much.
Hiya mufty, welcome to AB :-)

Don't get us wrong, we aint saying newbies aren't welcome, indeed we love the frsh blood- heh!

What I think dotty meant, and I agree, is that prospecter here hasn't contributed to the site, well not anywhere I've seen anyway, he seems purely intent on moaning.
maybe protesting too much is the way forward with my complaint about constant imposterers and people starting threads that are specifically composed to cause offence to particular users of this site. i have repeatedly explained that i have put up with it for over a year, those people who ate suggesting I should continue to ignore it and carry on just simply reporting them cannot see that this is not going to stop until a new way of registering is introduced , i believe this is being looked at, however, in the meantime, if someone were to register a name exactly the dame as your own but just change one detail about it, i.e. add a dash or a squiggle, would you just sit back a laugh about it? maybe the first few times, but bot when it gets to the 20th time, then you would really start to want it to stop. Oh and please, noone suggest me changing my user ID, why should I? It is my name and I use it everywhere and nothing like this ever happens anywhere else.
Thank you for replying to my post, B00 and welcoming me to the AB. I have now read some of the references to this problem that dot.hawkes has had. I am very surprised that someone can have a name so similar, when they register. This is not my first choice, or indeed my second. Early days yet, but I haven't seen the other names that I chose originally, or anything like them, so thought that they didn't allow names so close to each other. Having said that, I did see one from someone yesterday with a username like yours, but repeated and in lower case.

That said, I have enjoyed reading some of the funny remarks many of the people here have said. I wanted to be able to join in, but have been unable to because I didn't receive the email registration.
Totally agree prospector. Remember we all have the option to help the Editor by pressing the report buttons. Could you reply to this question, new ED? .

muffty, I think a name stays on file forever once it's registered. So if someone registers just once (probably to ask a Marlboro Quiz question) the name can never be used again even if the user has won the quiz and gone to live on a computer-free desert island he bought with his winnings.
It's why I couldn't have Boo, even though I've never seen that name used in the 18months I've been here!

Anyhooooos, I know this doesn't answer the points raised, but seriously prospector, wouldn't you enjoy AB more if you just settled down, got to know a few people, did a few crazy things like actually answer questions or even ask some of the one's that kept you awake at night?

I'm sure if you did, you'd get far more out of the site and it's people than what you get now- which must be nowt to be perfectly frank.

Just give us a chance eh? We ain't all that bad ;-)
Thanks jno, wondered where my boyfriend had disappeared to!! Lol (only joking)

B00 I like your name as it is with the double 00's

I have now seen some other duplicates, but with slight differences, like squiggles or small/large letters

Sorry to have changed the subject prospector, will look out for you on other posts, as us "greenies" have to stick together!!
I didn't want to be joby1 either :-(
But hey, me mother in law has been round and brought me new PJ's and slippers, so off for a bath and I will be refreshed....oh...I'll still be joby1 tho .:-)
