Does anyone here have an in-depth knowledge of the MPAN reference number that appears on your electricity bill?

I specifically need to know if the MPAN changes when the meter is changed - is it associated with that particular meter or the physical address? I have asked several different suppliers and have been given different answers.

Electricity network companies have always told me that the MPAN number is tied to the supply address.
It stays the same whatever meter is fitted.
