This is going to go down like a lead balloon, I know, since most here are of the classic/old/easy listening persuasion (no problem to me – we all have different tastes) but do any of you remember a song called In The Shadows by The Rasmus? It did pretty well over here – look it up on YouTube and you’ll probably remember it.
That was their only impact on the UK charts but I recently found this absolute gem by the same band. When you hear the intro you’ll think it’s going to be ridiculously heavy, but it really isn’t. The verses are much more gentle, but the chord sequences of the choruses are just magnificent and (not the kind of thing that generally gets noticed) I just love the way the backing vocals are done – technically quite difficult; I’ve been practising them over the bassline and they’re hard to get right! For me the whole package is just a gorgeous piece of song-writing.
