Wouldn't it be less aggressive if we were warned that we were nearing our limit of posts? And is it daily or weekly?

Hi Artful,

Good suggestion - I will pass this onto the Technical Team and let you know the Answer.

What is the current limit then?
Question Author
Don't know smudge, but I was pretty miffed when I couldn't do anything last night.
Question Author
And thanks ABEd for saying you may take it into consideration.
What limit?
The only limit I'm aware of is 2000 characters per answer.  Is there any reason for that?  It would be much more useful if it were 3000 or 5000 or whatever.
Question Author
The number of posts you are allowed (daily?) B4 you can't post any more until the next day. Or rather you can post but they are not visible except in 'my profile'.
But what limit?!?  I've never encountered any limit on the number of answers per day, and sometimes I do dozens in one day!  What is this limit?
Question Author
We don't know which is why I've asked if we could be warned before we reach it...
AbEd, why do we have to be limited?  I've just made huge errors in Chat as I was trying to download a photo - I finally managed it - but have probably used up all my words.  Also why cannot we cancel our own mistakes and questions then it wouldn't a) look silly and b) clog up the answerbank.

Hey, hey, netibiza, well said! And it would help solve my hiccup problem.
well, AB's supposed to be an archive (however wonky the search facility may be), and it would defeat the object of the exercise if people could just delete their questions and all the answers that went with them, or reward their answers in a way that made nonsense of other people's posts.

I am with bernardo on this,

I never knew that there WAS any limit!

Like bernardo I post a lot,and wouldn't want that to be curtailed, and why should it be?

Question Author
I don't adhere to deleting stuff that has been posted but being able to delete replies that are duplicated; maybe jno and mystress you haven't come across this problem but should you, you will realise it is not a happy situation. I know acw knows what I am talking about. Hiccups is not nice!.
Question Author
And when your hiccuping adds to your posts it's very frustrating.

Hi all,

As jno mentions, deleting posts would keep users of the site from accessing desired items. And as Artful so aptly acknowledges - hiccups are not nice and I will pass this along with the previous request to the Heavies in Technical for any suggestion as to how to keep this from occurring, if there is indeed anything we can do on our end. Thanks again for the suggestions and for raising these issues.

AB ED

I've had the hiccups too Artful - I didn't even know it was happening until the robots deleted them for me and I went into my profile to find why my posts had been banned. As long as the robots do it, no need for me to. But I agree this sort of thing shouldn't count towards our mysterious daily limit, and perhaps robot school could teach them to recognise inadvertent repeat posts.

As for why the limit on posts - I believe that was originally set up as a deterrent to imposters, malicious reporters and other pranksters; no idea if it works or not. I agree with your original suggestion about warnings, Artful - but then so does AB Ed, and that's much more significant!

so one of my posts this afternoon had hiccups.  But now none of my subsequent posts (on other topics) are appearing.  I've not reached the limit, as I've only been on 10 mins.
Question Author
Flaming nuisance those hiccups; but are you sure your other posts haven't appeared 'cuz this one has...
So, as ABE is watching, can he/she please clarify what none of us seem to know:-  What is the limit on posting and how is it worked out, ie no,s of questions/no,s of answers etc.

Hi all,

In response to your Question, members are limited to 3 posts - Questions or Answers - within a five minute period across all categories except ChatterBank. You will be temporarily suspended if you exceed this limit. This is to prohibit naughty people from misusing the site. Thank you for your patience and hopefully your days of bewilderment are now over.

As for hiccups - the Heavies are looking into this. In the meantime make sure you click on the Submit button only once. I'm a mad clicker as well and will sometimes submit repeat posts to the site because I think it hasn't registered - but it has. A good rule: if the hour glass is spinning, don't press submit again. And be wary of shortcut keys if you have them.
