My oh drives me mad...the local elections are coming up and as always he says he will not be voting..never votes in anything..I have even arranged for postals so he does not even have to drag himself to a polling both but still can't even scribble a cross and name on a bit of paper..BUT..he does nothing but rant and rave about the Government etc etc..whining, moaning and has plenty to say about what they do and don't do. I say.. if you do not even vote then you have NO right to an opinion...people like his dad have fought and died in order that we may live in a democratic society..and to my mind he is insulting their bravery....GGGRRRRR...rant over....

don't vote, then can't rant, voting gives you a voice, abstaining does not.

sent my postal vote off yesterday
I don't have a good reason for not voting, except that I really don't understand politics and it has never been of interest to me.
i have, but reckon for once i made a horlicks of it.

Actually.... not voting was how the law caught up with Ronnie Biggs in Australia were it is compulsory to do so ..this led to him fleeing Oz and leaving his wife behind...and him being found in Brazil....etc etc...
I have a postal vote as my polling station is at a distance accessible by public transport after a walk, two buses and another walk. Not that the bus times gel. Taxis are expensive. There is another polling station within walking distance but not in my ward.
I have, as yet not received any literature about any candidate. No meetings have been advertised to introduce any cadidate and policies. No candidate supporter has knocked on my door. No one has asked for support by telephone.
If no one can be bothered to supply me with information as to why I should vote for them why should I be beggared to walk to the nearest post box and vote? A pig in a poke comes to mind.
Vote for what????? Who's lies you believe............ I always voted at one time, but now the U.K is finished. They allowed far to many people in and now we will never recover..
Know what you mean mm, though I still think there's a compelling case for a "none of the above" box on the ballot paper.
no, i put a cross where i shouldn't, mind was elsewhere, and so think it will not count. First time mind, i am quite diligent about voting, either local and government elections. If you don't vote, then you shouldn't moan about what happens after.
Is any one of them fit for purpose?
perhaps not, but we have the choice, throw them out and get others in. Or run for local council positions and see if one can make a difference?
DIY local government? As a not terribly fit non-driving female pensioner, I think not.
ok, I am standing in the local elections. I've spent the last goodness knows how long writing personally addressed letters to the postal voters and knocking on doors. I am shattered. I can't do many more 1.30am bedtimes and 5am starts.

However, I do believe that politics on a national level and politics on a local level are quite different. That's why I am standing as an independent.

Hope you all vote :)
Jolly good for you BM. Hope you win.
Thank you Ladybirder. Although 3 May can't come soon enough now. I am SO shattered. Trying to get round 3000+ houses in a month is no easy task. What makes it worse is that my OH is standing in a different ward so we have double trouble!!!!
