Eradicated threads/suspensions
300 Answers
Hi Ed/spare/moderators.
I accept that there is a 'keep it nice' ethos here and I do my best to stick to the rules but do you *have* to nanny this place so much that threads are zapped and people are suspended so readily ?
Surely a little more 'let it run its course' lenience is not asking too much and a little less censorship will allow personalities/views be seen in all their true colous, warts and all.
I appreciate that you have to draw the line somewhere, but I have seen a lot of threads pulled that were crammed with fascinating insights, colourful and constructive viewpoints and several posters suspended summarily for reasons that seemed pretty innocuous to me (even though they may also conflict with my own views).
My suggestion: please give warnings if you think someone is spoiling the ship for a ha'pennyworth of tar rather than just deleting entire threads/suspending people.
Thanks.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Mrs C - you say you'd like the 3 strikes and you're out system put in place, but what if you are suspended for no reason? Myself and Annie were suspended one night because another poster decided we were the same person and presumably reported us. The suspension only lasted a few minutes but wouldn't that still count? You were picked up wrongly by Fredkins last night - what if she had taken enough offence to report you and that resulted in your suspension? You had done nothing but your answers were totally misconstrued - these are the cases when fairness comes into it and it's not just a case of 'playing by the rules'.

Evening Karen.
If you are incorrectly suspended, then No, that shouldn’t count towards your 3, as that would be unfair. I’m referring to the posters who continually break the rules and know that they are doing so, but refuse to change their attitude.
With reference to Fredkins last night – I am guessing she, or someone else, did report me, as I couldn't log in for a while and I presume I was suspended. I was, however, quickly reinstated, so my explanation must've been deemed reasonable by the powers-that-be.
IMO no-one who sticks to the rules need be worried about suspensions. It is the persistent rule-breakers that the Ed is trying to eradicate. And tbh, I don't think it's likely that anyone would be unlucky enough to be suspended three times in error. I reckon we're safe. :o)

I personally don't mind either way, Craft....but I can see by the very frequent suspensions and removal of posts, the Ed is keen to reconstruct the site's ethics.
Whether I agree with this reconstruction or not is neither here nor there. I don't have a say in his decisions. It's his site and he'll run it as he pleases.
If he implemented a 3 strikes rule and I was an ABer who was prone to getting myself suspended, a rule such as this would certainly make me think twice before getting involved in name-calling/petty squabbles. As I see it, this is what the Ed is trying to stop - hence his "play nicely" approach.
