My goodness, he has a cheek. I could no more do that than fly to the moon.
Cheeky blighter.
How on earth could you get a refund with no receipt, no proof of card used to pay for it?? Did they give him cash? More fool them. He looks such a nice man too.
Am I missing something here ?

Why did the manager give him a refund without sight of proof of purchase.....ie a receipt ?
The manager didn't issue the refund the assistant did.
//He then walked straight to one of the tills and asked the cashier for a refund without a receipt.

He then left the till to speak with the manager, shook his hand and returned to the cashier who believed permission had been given for a refund.//
Only after talking to the manager Mamya. I suspect it may have been a brand of TV only available in that store. Still very lax of The manager tho.
Aldi seem to be as much at fault here at the rouge himself.
He sold them a dummy, it does not say he discussed the tv or refund with the manager - the cashier mistook the handshake for approval.

Appears the young checkout operator got the store manager & he authorised the refund. From how the story goes, the manager even shook hands with this bogus customer before giving him the money. I'm thinking the manager is for the high jump here!!
He probably asked the manager how his wife was and then shook his hand, conveying to the assistant that permission had been given, I suspect this wasn't his first attempt at conning people.
He is a clever begger, thats for sure !
It says the man went to talk to a manager. I suppose he pretended the manager had given permission for the refund and the till operator believed him. Still takes some believing though .
the lewisgang seems to have more in depth info than the published link.

Still an audacious crime and lax of the store.
Opportunistic but certainly not clever Mikey4444
Yes he had a cheek ... rouge cheeks perhaps.
One of my relatives bought my Dad a pair of M&S pyjamas for Christmas. They were Small and my dad is not small. She did not put the receipt in the parcel.

I took the unopened pyjamas back to M&S, without a receipt. I was given a credit note for £25.00

I could have gone into M&S, picked up a 'packet of pyjamas and taken them to the till to be given a credit note.

There should be some kind of electronic something that says that the item has previously been paid for.
Something similar really did happen at Harrods where my cousin works.
Two men in overalls with 'Harrods' on them, walked into the TV department pointed to a large screen TV and asked the staff if it was the TV that had to go back to the basement storage bay. The staff said something like ' I haven't got a clue mate just take it. They picked it up and the staff held the door open for them to take it out.
It was a week before the staff realised the 'storemen' had stolen the TV!

Just what I was told Mamy. Makes me feel good when I was a good shopper last week in my local Lidl. Someone had left a wooden chopping board on the packing shelf at the back of the checkouts. I could easily have picked it up & left but I found the lovely store manager & personally handed it to him. My good deed for that day. I just hope the person who bought it returned to collect it
He was really cheeky, but one of the workers should have checked. I hope they catch him.
