This was posted yesterday, but I thought I would give it a fresh thread.

That poor bird must be soaked through ! The two chicks that she is protecting are doing quite well, but a period of warm dry weather wouldn't go amiss !

I already have that website open, Mikey, but thanks anyway.

More rain today, I see.
Here's another one. Also in Wales. Just as wet there, too.

Hope you didn't mind me stealing your link Tilly ! I thought it needed to be shared amongst more people.
Not at all, Mikey. Thanks for doing it. :-)
Question Author
Tilly...that second link looks like the same bird, or do they all look alike ?
Not raining up in that part of Scotland, Minty. That's good.

They are all similar, Mikey but each one is distinctive in some way. I assure you that they are not the same except that they are both soaked through and miserable looking
Question Author
How do these poor birds manage to preen themselves ?

I don't know much about Ospreys but I always thought that if they didn't preen on a regular basis, their feathers lose the "waterproofability" ?
Question Author
I notice that the Scottish chicks look very much more advanced.

By the way, thanks Minty !
Question Author
Its lovely watching the Scottish bird feed her chicks...so delicate !
Welcome to the world of Osprey watching, Mikey. :-)
wait till mummy osprey pulls out the Irn Bru !! lol
Question Author
I have been watching the Dyfi cam. The other Osprey, the Dad I presume, has been sitting there with a nice fish for ages but he isn't making much of an effort to eat it, not is he offering it to the others bird. This happened in exactly the same way with the Glaslyn birds yesterday.

Birdwatching isn't really my subject of expertise ( Dale !) so I am puzzled by this....any Osprey experts here today ?
All the chicks are stuffed to the gills with fish on a regular basis. They are not calling for food, otherwise they would be fed. At the moment it's more important to keep them dry and warm. When they are hungry, the parents will feed them.
Question Author
Thanks Tilly !
Mikey, look at Glaslyn.....quick...
Ah! Too late.

One last question Tilly.

The birds in the Scottish can look very brown, but the ones in the Welsh cams are mostly a kind of black/slate grey....not sure why, unless its the heavy rain in Wales.
The osplets in Scotland are older, far more advanced and have most of their feathers. The Welsh ones are younger and they are still creating feathers. Fish converts to feather. :-)
