I had the pleasure of watching one of these tiny birds, in the woods this morning at close quarters.
Its bright crest gave a little bit of sparkle to an otherwise dull winters day.

The most amazing thing though, was how it managed to find food among the bare twigs, which I assume were microscopic microbes, it was feeding on.

Lucky you, Chip......it's a bird I love to see....so tiny and cheery.....x
Wonderful.
One of my favourites. I've been lucky enough to have one feed on a tree right outside my bedroom window for most of the winter. I've spent ages looking at it from close quarters through my binos. Beautiful things.
Are you sure it was not a Goldfinch Chipchopper? Goldcrests usually feed high in the trees, whilst the Goldfinch loves thistle and dandelion seeds.

Togo, Yes definitely a Goldcrest.
I see them occasionally at eye level, often apparently oblivious to being watched, probably because it had found a good food source.
Nice one They are a lovely bird.
