Bat or Bird

do bats run along the ground ? or do they only stay up in the trees,
I saw something around 10pm darting backwards and forwards along the garden path but as it was so quick I don,t know what it was
would a bird still be awake that time of night , it was about the size of a wren

Probably a mouse.

Definitely not a bat.

Bats do not dart along the ground, they crawl slowly and laboriously.We had one crawling across our living room floor a month or so ago, I would estimate it's speed at about 1" per second.
