I recently had to give my dog to Battersea dogs home because of health reasons as i could walk him no more.Yesterday on the news i seen a feature that said that 3000 dogs had to be destroyed last year because they were too aggressive or suspected danger breeds and my dog seemed to be a mix that fell in this category although he was never dangerous and only had a fight with one dog in four years of me having him. The guilt that i could've been the cause of his death eats me up every day. Is there anyway that Battersea would tell me if they found him a new family or whether they put him to sleep? This really is killing me as he was my only pal almost like a son. I really regret it now.

Give them a call. the worst They can say is 'no'.

Phone Battersea dogs home and talk to them about your fears. They will have your records and should be able to tell you what has happened to your dog. You must feel awful.

Im just too frightened of what they may say. Life just feels so empty now.
It's a tough one... I'm sure that, once they've established your identity, they won't lie to you.
I had to re home my 2 dogs earlier this year, and after they had been at the centre a week my ex called them to find out how they were both doing. He was told that they had both been reserved for new homes as soon as they had been put up for rehoming.

Give them a call, you can at least try.

Thanks for your answers I think i need to accept responsibility and pluck up the courage and find out.
the article i saw said that all dogs were assessed and ONLY those dogs who couldn't be rehomed due to their aggression were put to sleep.
I worked for many years at a rehoming centre - dogs are not put to sleep just because of their breed - they are fairly assessed and if they have a good nature they will be re-homed. I can imagine just how you feel - most people who give up a dog feel guilty and it's unfortunate for you that the Panorama programme came at this time. All you can do is ring Battersea - explain your situation and see what they say. they know how owners feel - good luck

Thanks lofty I try and put it out of my mind but the article on the news had me looking at photos on my phone and remembering the good times we had together.
