I must waste loads of cat food by tearing the top and squeezing down with my fingers but not getting it all out. I know I could use a knife but any tips on other ways to get it all out easily and quickly (I'm always doing it in a rush)

Buy tins????
The felix supermeat one comes out very cleanly actually without leaving bits like the gravy ones,if they like that type that is!
Our Milly (pictured), has only ever eaten tinned Whiskers Chicken in Jelly. It's less expensive & very easy to place into her dish.

She also has a preference for cat biscuits & drinks plenty of water - although I found her drinking out of the toilet bowl last night! Typical cat! ;o}
My cat will not drink from a bowl. I have to leave a glass of water in the sink. I also leave some water in the bathroom sink. He still drinks from the toilet...!!
All the cats we've ever had have preferred drinking from the toilet, bidet, or the fish pond ummmm!

When I put Milly's dinner down, she 'always' walks up to it, smells it & promptly walks off. She has a little think about it, then comes back a few minutes later & tucks in! I've no idea why she does this, 'cos out other cats never have!

Cut right across the top from side to side, empty out the food into the bowl, stretch the package wide open and use a desert spoon to scoop out any remaining bts.
I just squish it up in the pouch whilst its sealed then pour, all comes out most of the time.
my cats have the felix jelly pouche and they tend to come out in one go by squeezing the bottom of the pouche. doesnt make much difference though cause my cats only lick the jelly and leave the meat.
i run mine under the hot tap whilst i'm cleanign her bowl, the whole gunky mess comes out in one go and its also then warmed to the required temperature......

I hate it when Frankie walks off and rejects the food before it even hits the bowl.

My little Princess Merlin mainly eats Iams so she is pretty easy to feed.

The pouches - I just squeeze the 'meat' up and put it in the bowl. If the meal is acceptable then Frankie licks the jelly off and will only eat the meat as a last resort.
i always squish the packet first to mush the meat up and then roll it down like you would a tube of toothpaste. seems to work for me and 99% of the meat comes out. my cats won't eat out of larger tins (as they are fussy boogers) and i refuse to buy the expensive tins. packets are a great way of providing a meal which keeps fresh and is like convenience food. the best types are kitekat, felix and tescos own brand as they have larger lumps and gravy/jelly which fall out easily. i'm sure you are doing a great job anyway...x

Thanks all of you for some great answers some of which made me laugh. One of my 2 is fussy and the other eats anything so I cater for the fussy one. Only likes the jelly variety but often licks that off and leaves the meat too -that's weird eh honky-tonk. Mcfluff that seems a good idea with the hot water, I'll try that.

Can't be doing with dirty cans hanging around all week waiting for the dustmen or for 2 weeks waiting for the recycling day!
You're welcome Prudie - I must admit, I do object to having to rinse & clean the cans before putting them in the recycle bin - us women have enough to do!

I think I might try Whiskas pouches when the tins run out!

Meow to all you kitties.
And doesn't it stink when it gets on your hands. My cat has almost eaten it before I get it out of the pouch. I only buy the pouches cos he's eight now, and I want to buy Senior Cat Food, I can't find it in tins. He likes, Tesco, Felix or Whiskas as long as it is fishy. And with gravy. And smelly. Yuk. I tend to push it up from the bottom, but there are always a couple of lumps that won't come out and I always get my fingers covered in it. I don't think i would like to know what is in it ...

Ha-ha smurfchops! Yes it does smell awful and I always get it on my hands. I switch between felix and whiskas jelly varieties depending if one's on offer. Come to think of it some of them do slide out in a solid piece but some are always mushy and I leave loads behind, probably a pouchworth from every 12, not very economical.
Ah, well you don't get it on your hands when it comes out of a tin - that's one positive thing! ;o}
OMG - what a mess! Some of the comments at the bottom of that article made me chuckle though forget!

As I say, I'm going to give pouches a whirl, but will cut tops with scissors & squeeze! lol
