Thanks Redman, but part of the link you give is missing...
Have just tried it and it seems ok !
Hi woodelf, it's missing because AB shortens the links now.
I've copied and pasted what it says about giraffe coats...

Both male and female giraffes have a spotted coat. The pattern of the coat varies and is an aide for camouflage with the different habitats. The nine giraffe subspecies have various skin patterns. The patches on a giraffe coat can be small, medium, or large in size. Giraffe coats are sharp-edged or fuzzy-edged; small, medium, or large; or yellow to black in color. The skin pattern for an individual giraffe is constant throughout the giraffe’s life. With the changing of season and health, the coat color may be altered.

Many Thanks Indeed Robinia for all that info. Sorry Redman, I didn't know that AB was shortening links...which doesn't help anyone AB!
the links should still work (mine does), AB just shortens them to save space. There are six different sorts of giraffe with different sorts of pattern.
I hope it's ok that I tell you woodelf is blind and I think uses a screen reader. Shortened links must be confusing.

Is that right woodelf?

That's okay Robinia, but the thing is that there are characters missing from the links, I just get dots and anyway, even if I hit the link as it is, I can't activate the damn thing...all I get is a loud click and nothing happens and with some of the site address missing, it makes it hard to guess what the full address is - so please AB people, could you stop shortening the links, it's discrimination at least!...not that I should complain (why not? the ABers out there scream, as I've found many nice and some special nice people on here - here endeth my moan!
ah, I see - apologies, woodelf. I don't know if you have a way of doing this, but if you can right-click on the shortened link and then go to 'Properties' and click on it, you'll be able to see the full name of the link.
my use of the word 'see' in my last post was metaphorical, of course, but a bit stupid.
The colorings dont denote their sex.

That's okay jno, nowt to be sorry about and you aint stupid either! I'll have a look at what you say about the link and see what happens. It's okay Tambourine, I only needed to know about the markings cos I've ordered some replica figurines of giraffes - sight unseen of course...smile - and just wanted to know what to expect when they arrive, whether they're *life like* or not - it's been many years since I've seen a giraffe, hence the question - and of course, Lottie's help with the platform8 site showed me the way to get the figurines...big smile Lottie.
