We've recently got our fish tank down from the loft and cleaned it up thinking we would get some tropical fish only to find the heater doesn't work. Are there any fish, apart from Goldfish that can survive without heated water? Guppys maybe?
TIA.

hey hau kola :o)

if you go to a good aquarium shop they should have a whole section of cold water fish. some of the fancy goldfish are lovely.

Hiya sara,
lol, my o/h is too tight to buy a heater.
I think he just wants to start with cold water to see how he gets on as they're easier to look after.
I have one somewhere.. I took it out as tropical fish were pricey and kept popping their clogs! I have a few fancy goldfish now. they live through all manner of neglect ;o)

Yeah, is there one called Blackmoor or something like that?
Hello, theres shubunkins, they're like goldfish but they look like they've had patchwork done, they come in mulicolours and are great to have in the tank
also got to your local petshop and ask about their seletion :)
It would depend on the size of your tank plus the filteration you're using. Any of the fancy goldfish would be fine as would bitterling and golden/rosy minnows. Of the more temperate stuff (room temperature), you could go for rice fish, paradise fish, zebra danios or white cloud mountain minnows
