My 5 month old Chihuahua pup really hates his lead, when we put it on him he sulks or cowers away from it.  When we try walking him along he cries and struggles like mad.  Sometimes he'll walk normally for a bit then he starts crying and struggling again.  He loves going outside so we didn't think we'd have a problem.  We don't know what to do to get him used to the lead, any suggestions?

He might find the sensation of the lead around his neck uncomfortable or overpowering - try getting a body harness instead and lead him from the body as opposed to the 'pulling' method. also try playing with the dog with the lead on the floor near by so it gets used to it being around and doesnt associate it with something bad but instead a good thing as it means playtime.
