Apart from the ones on here (!) - & I include myself at the top of that List - what happened to all the palava over CJD / Mad Cow Disease ? It all seems to have died a death, if you'll pardon the pun. Was it all beefed up? Or have the media forgotten about it and gone onto the Next Big Thing (i.e. Swines as opposed to Cows?)

Are the two going to somehow merge and mutate?
OMG we'll all be going around mooing and pecking...

It soon will be overrun....the great unwashed will be at the football this weekend!
the way this government is going they'll need bubonic plague to hide a bad news day........
I know a few mad cows lol
Your prophecy is almost about to come true, craft1948.

Whilst not quite the same as its bubonic cousin, there have been reports over the past few days of an outbreak of pneumonic plague in China.

All of these things (the most sensational of which always seem to be associated with animals dont forget we were all to be slain by bird flu not too long ago) give governments (particularly this one) a sense of importance. They can flap around setting up help lines and websites (most of which are no help at all) and generally spend a bit more of the taxpayers hard-earned putting in place ineffective and often unnecessary measures.

It provides them with the activity upon which they thrive to justify their existence.

I've had that fluff - but you do get over it. And it can even be recurrent. It does make you a little mad, sometimes you can behave like a cow with it - but all in all, it's not the worst virus you can get :-)

Fancy a glass of Rioja ? (hic)
