I've just been reading a really ignorant discussion board on another website where people have been blaming swine flu on 'dirty foreigners' and it got me thinking... what diseases have originated in Britain?

Yes, one can develop "chavitis" -symptoms include wearing bling, trackuits; a huge butt, cravings for stodgy food,an urge to quit work and watch daytime tv,an urge to breed and produce as many kids as one can, cravings for cheap beer and gutrot cider, and tourette- like symptoms.

Empiritis - The development of an inexplicable, irrational tendency to declare that "Ingerlund" is the greatest country in the world, largely based, it appears, on events of over half a century ago and completely ignoring the current world geo politics. Commonly exhibited and spread amongst and by Football Hooligans and BNP supporters.
jennyjen...I have some sympathy with the members of that discussion board, in that on the whole Britain IS a dirty place compared to other European Countries and by and large, the people in other European countries are far more hygienic than the Brits.

In my opinion there is greater numbers of people infected by the H1N1 virus in the UK, because the Brits are complacent about it and this has been borne out by threads I have read on AB.

It is often difficult to say where a disease originated, so I cannot answer your last sentence.

I am talking about British people saying that dirty foreigners are bringing it here, sqad, I'm thinking either you've misunderstood my question, or I've misunderstood your answer!?

I was trying to put the point across that these British people are blaming dirty foreigners, but how many diseases have we spread to other parts of the world.
jenny....so sorry...my fault entirely.
it's not really a fair question - we conquered most of the world - wiped out whole civilisations and gave the rest some pretty lethal deseases ... but that was before people knew how to combat it

Slavery was wrong - but it's a fact - and it's got to be borne in mind that at that time - it wasn't thought badly of ....

times change ... morality changes .... as does necessity

It's true that asia seems to originate many of the new strains of flu - africa for aids - but hot, damp, strong sunlight, swamps --- and no winter to kill it all off ... where else would you cook a plague?

knowing it's there is't up to us all to take precautions ... and as squad says ... we don't - my surgery has only just started to provide hand gel - and the kids toys are festering in a corner

and yes dirty foreigners, dirty brits, dirty travellers
mad cow disease?

Actually, a lot of diseases comes from animals - not just swine flu and bird flu. Plague carried by rats, anthrax from sheep or cattle and so on. The actual country they come from doesn't matter so much.
What about TB - it was totally erradicated here in the UK not so long ago - and now its on the increase, especially in the east end of London - and why, because of the influx of immigrants bringing it back into this country.
So that would be a huge 'not many' then?

Maybe they have a point?
