A village has been left 400,000 by a 90-year-old widow as a thank you for the welcome she had when she retired.

Margaret Allan moved to Solva in Pembrokeshire 30 years ago with husband Harry after leaving the Foreign Office.

Mr Allan died in 1990 but villagers helped his widow rebuild her life and cared for her in her final years.

In return, she has shared her estate among scores of individuals, groups and societies in the village as well as taking care of her ginger cat, Brutus.

Mrs Allan and her late husband used to holiday in the waterfront village, in St Bride's Bay, before retiring there.

With no children, they threw themselves into village life and soon were members of local social clubs, societies and the chapel.

Awww... That warms the old cockles doesn't it.
good for her. Nice people,t he Welsh. (Not so sure about the North Welsh, mind you.)
There's a difference?
so the South Welsh say. I expect the North Welsh do too. (Actually I think they speak of North Walians and South Walian and their versions of the Welsh language are slightly different.)
I seem to remember watching something randomly... I think there's something about welsh not all being descended from celts, (not sure), wonder if that's where it stems from? I'll ask my friend when I remember, he can do a survey in Cardiff or something.

Mind you... I have to say I'm not too fond of North London and that's only up the road all things considered.
arrrr, we be a weird lot north of ye Marrybone road
Tell me about it... I actually feel vaguely afraid in North London if it's a bit dark (and occasionally in day light). I've no problems walking around the areas deemed unsafe in south London at all, (Peckham, Camberwell, Catford etc..) I'd say it's what you know but you really are an odd bunch... ;0)
mind you we don't go in for some of them strange southern practices that you probably feel at home with, China
