First thing - take him to the vet and get him checked over. My parents dog has lost both his eyes and gets around perfectly ok now. Leave your furniture etc where they always have been for the time being if you move stuff he will get confused. When their dog gets in a muddle he woofs for someone to come and get him cos he's lost his bearings! It just takes time and patience and a few knocks on the nose or head usually! You will more than likely find his other senses will become stronger like smell and he will use that to get around.
agree with the above post - specially about leaving things where they are - has the dog suddenly gone blind or is it a gradual decline? I have an 18 year old blind collie who gets about fine and what I find helps is one or two plants at strategic points - it helps her get her bearings (ah, the mint plant therefore have to turn right for the water bowl). The woofing is for reassurance,he's confused and wants his Mom/Dad - my Daisy dog does it and has been completely blind for the best part of four years now (she's also quite bloody minded but I think that's a good thing and helps to keep her going) - as for peeing on the carpet, stress will cause this but does need checking out with a vet too just to rule out any underlying probs. what I also try and do is make as many different things happen when she is awake - like feeding her very small meals but often, putting part of her feed in a Kong for her to worry at, scattering biscuits in the garden for her to hunt down and I take her with me as much as I can - figure a dark word isn't much fun and its her eyesight that's gone, not her brain so a bit of sound and smell stimulation breaks the monotony. ! On that subject, she has trained me perfectly to answer her when she barks (which I don't mind) I swear there's a triumphant sparkle in eye when she gets a biscuit. Sometimes at the end of the day there's very left in the 'ration jar' but carrots are a good treat anyway and not bad on the waistline. Good luck with your dog and keep us posted.
The weeing is probably fright. at finding himself on his own. If you have to lrave him alone try leaving the radio on tuned to something calming. It might help to lessen the fright.
How old is yer dog, Daisybell? Is there any cloudiness in his eyes that may indicate cataracts? My Corgi, Bill, is 13 now,
no sign of cataracts that I can see but, at times, when coming indoors, he walks right past the entrance ramp.

I know he doesn't have so much time left as my faithful companion . . . . really not much one can do with limited funds, such as I. I simply try to make his life as easy as possible for him and, very important, don't just let him curl up in the corner and be ignored . . . . so long as he is happy and content,

My Candy is a Golden Retreiver she is 11I have taken her to the vet's she has detached both retina's over night she went blind completely aparently it is called SURPS and it does happen occassionaly she has no catracts. She is doing very well I have put different aroma smells at each door and so she does not bang into them it seems to be working. I am also teaching her left and right and this way when I take her out she is a very intellent dog.She is also finding her way around the garden and correcting herself The thing I find hard is she does not play with her ball anymore I don't know how to make her enjoy life anymore. She only went blind last Wednesday.
Get a ball with a bell in and start by throwing it a short way. She will hear it land, sniff it out and bring it back. I have also taught our girl to stop on command.
