My cavalier king charles spaniel swallowed whole the largest of the bones from a chicken wing - about the size of little finger. He did this 2 evenings ago. After watching him 24/7 hes absolutely normal. Eating, playing, sleeping & toileting. Will he pass the bone or will he possibly need an operation to remove it? TA x

If your dog swallowed the bone whole, he might be ok and pass it through. Just keep an eye on what he's passing if you can. If no signs of it in a couple of days it looks like a trip to the vet is on the cards. The big trouble would have been if he had crunched the bone, as chicken bones splinter and are very sharp, which can cause a lot of damage. Chicken bones should always be kept well away from dogs (and cats). Hope all goes well.
when this happened to our dog several xmases ago i rang the vet in a right flap xmas night his advice was to give her plenty of olive oil as it helps them pass through and they did without any problems also our little dog ate a load of gravel when she was pinching some bread that the birds had dropped she was passing that for over a week they said as long as she was ok it would work its way through
Was it cooked or raw?

I have just heard of a dog that had been imported over 9 months ago, that was very poorly with peritinitus. They found a european sink plug in its tummy. No way could it have swallowed it over here, so it had been been in its stomach a long time before it became a problem.
