This caterpillar was found in our garden:

I know it is a member of the Tussock Moth family, but is it native to the UK?

it looks like a SYCAMORE DAGGER (apetele aceris) belongs to the family Noctuidae,it is more common in the south of england.

Thanks for both your replies. Yes, I have just googled 'Sycamore dagger caterpillar' and came across this: http://www.uksafari.com/sycamoremoth.htm
The one in my photograph was the first I had seen. Quite large, too. About 4cm long.
