Here's another one for you...any recommendations for which company to insure Lotttie with. We had Jade, our Border Collie, with Pet Plan, who were great but a little more expensive. What do you all think? All advice gratefully received.

Avoid a company called E & L like the plague.

We had untold amounts of problems with them and our vets have said they are probably the worst company they have to deal with.

We are with petplan - a little more expensive that others, but I am of the thought - you get what you pay for.

Good luck

Hey barb, I would be interested on any recomendations too!

I raved on about AFI before, and my sister in law went with them.

They then had a 1,800 bill for a one night/2day stay for their St Bernard at a doggy hospital, and when she went to give the details, she was told they didnt deal with the insurance company!
My SIL wouldnt step down as at the time she had a screaming 2 week old baby and could not afford to pay 1,800.

I now only have one of my dogs with them, but I am looking for a new company that has good policies, along with a good multi pet discount so I can insure all my pets with them!
Lil'Lucy!

I'm a Lucy too! And AFI that I have just posted about are part of E & L! Oooh, spooky! lol!

Main problem I had was each cat was under a different policy and had to have different direct debits. Meaning that as I am useless with money, when I bounced the payment, I had 7 lots of bank charges!
When I spoke with them, they said they had to have them all as seperate payments, yet I know other companies can have all pets with different policies in one payment!
It depends very much on what you want from the insurance and where you live.

This is well worth reading before you make a choice:

I've used Tesco for my last 2 dogs and they've been great. Not too expensive and really caring people when you speak to them
I am with Pet Plan with all mine, and although I agree expensive have never had any problems. I was with DBI before, but the downside with them was that they only covered one condition for 12 months, so if your dog needed medication for life for one complaint they wouldnt cover you.

I know a few people with Healthy Pets, worth a quote, as I have heard some favourable reports, and one of the cheaper insurers.

I agree - Tesco are very good and very competitive.

Hi the 2 Lucys,Jules,Sally,Kita and Thugulike (great name!).Your answers are really helpful and I also know who to avoid. Reckon I will go with Pet Plan as I have dealt with them before but am very happy to pay a little bit more.Have looked at Tesco,M and S (a workmate raved about them...he has a very problematic rescue dog) and Churchill (only cos my car is with them) I just have to read all that small print. Thankyou all.
