Your daughter says to you 'Mummy, why didn't you come when we were crying last night?' And you decide just to check on her a bit more often when you abandon her and her brother and sister the next night?! How often was she checking them in the first place? And if your daughter tells you she was crying, you still don't feel like you should stay with her? I'm sorry, but how can you just leave your children so you can go out? I am shocked at their refusal to go back to Portugal to take part in a reconstruction unless they get guarantees they're not arrested. If this does not smack of guilt...........

That came from Portuguese Police sources, it's alleged that's what Kate told them during the initial interview with them, mhence the anger at it being leaked

Ethel, apparently and according to the papers, they said all this in a statement and it was leaked to Spanish television!

And, more importantly, the McCanns haven't denied it!!!

Why oh why haven't they been done for Child neglect - it stinks!

Even leaving them once is bad enough but every night for a week - wicked!

....and if anyone remembers, the lady in the apartment above them said the kids were crying at night, she was also called McCann but no relation. She later "withdrew" her statement . All very strange.

They have admitted via their publicity spokesman that it was said by maddy. But they have said Maddy didnt say why she was crying etc. One of the couples friends was in a room next door at time and didnt hear a thing.

Make of that what you will, but it was said by Maddy.

I dont know why, with so many adults and children, they didnt have a rota whereby one adult was always with the children during those eves they wanted to go out for meals. That shouldve been the very least they shouldve done.

From what I can gather, the quote from Maddie is correct as it was part of the poilice interview with KAte, but the Mccans are saying that it was taken out of context!

I'm not to sure what the truth behind the laters revalations are, but I think that the Mccans ARE guilty of leaving their children and will live with this for the rest of thei lives!

Not very official is it? Alleged, apparently.... totally meaningless.

And children DO cry, even when the parents are there. The woman who is supposed to have said she heard her crying for hours has since denied ever saying it.

Don't forget the Express has had to pay a lot of money to the McCann fund for fabricating articles.

Can you honestly see either of the McCanns' saying that to the Portugese police?

I feel as strongly about this as all of you, and in fact made remarks, against the McCanns,
But on reflection, our own police are extremely smart at this sort of thing, and i'm very convinced they will provide some answers in due course, I do not think that we the general public should go charging arround pointing the finger, we are only very poor amateurs in what is a very serious game, game not being the correct word here,don't forget it's a child that's missing, here , not some trophy in a treasure hunt.

You are right, we can't play at being detectives as none of us could ever know. But I can't help but think that Maddie would still be here if she was not left. And that's my only grip!

Whatever has been said or not said to me is irrelevant, a kiddie is missing and I cannot for one second imagine the pain of it going on for months, when one of our sons went missing on a beach for 5 minutes I was not thinking logically I was in sheer panic, it is a feeling I shall never forget, I think they were wrong to leave the children alone in that apartment, very wrong, but please have some feeling for these people, all will be revealed in time but whatever has happenede to that poor kiddie is the main thing, I just hope the poor little mite is safe and ok.

Yes, we do not know if maddie actually said this, but we do not know actually what the McCanns have said or done, only have their words for it! So believe it all , or believe none of it.

There's a lot that isn't known about this case. I heard on the news this morning that the story about Maddie & her brother crying the previous night had been leaked and the McCann's lawyer was on saying that the McCanns told the police about it in case there may have been someone hanging around then that frightened the children. If that is the case then why leave 3 young children the following night and only check on them hourly?
However Ray is right - this is a mistake that the parents will have to live with and regret for the rest of their lives and the bottom line is that a lovely little girl suffered because of it.

I am absolutely sick of the sight and sound of these two. I have absolutely no sympathy for the pair of them.
If it wasn't for the fact that they are so called 'professionals with a big house etc they would have been done for neglect - the Shannon Matthews case being an example.

The bottom line is they should not have left those kids on their own, and all this wingeing about information being leaked to the press is pathetic. God bless you Madelaine wherever you are. As for the parents - you will have your neglect of your children on your concience for the rest of your lives.

Actually, just listening to Anne Diamond on The Wright Stuff, she made a good point!

The Mccans (for all their failings) are trying to get something up and running that will help 'all' future abduction cases of children in EU as in America (which has been succesfull).

So it's a shame that this leak has come out now as it might hinder a very necessary thing to happen and save future Children!
