How can they skip when they only have stupid little stumpy legs?
That was uncalled for Myriad, why not go onto chatterbank if you feel like that!

That's the sort of answer you would expect from someone who recently posted a ' question ' that just consisted of the word bored repeated 65 times I'm afraid Garner x x
Get a proper dog.
hey caveman, was your last breed different to the one's you have now?
would love to see your dog skipping.
have you any video?
... come to that, what kind of person counts the number of words in a post?
I have a black and white jack russell (well my mum does), at the moment she's trying to lie as close to me as possible onthe sofa. She doesn't skip yet but I thought about getting a skipping rope and doing it with her as she's obviously very jumpy.

Although she does have her own little keyboard.
Obvious other breeds are the miniature and toy poodle (standard poodles would , given room enough) and both the mittel and the klein German spitz. Those are extrovert breeds with a lot of bounce. Never seen a Jack do it though!
Is it skipping one on leg? JR's may 'skip' due to patellar luxation - basically the groove that holds their kneecap in place is too shallow, and the kneecap sometimes slips out. When this happens, the dog can't bend its knee and misses a step on that leg.

Many other dog breeds can get it, mainly small dogs - terriers, pomeranians, mini poodles, dachshunds, but also larger dogs for example the basset hound and the Shar Pei. It is very common in Jack Russells though!
Definitely luxating patella, and you can test for it. When breeding dogs in most countries abroad they have to be tested for it, as it is hereditary in most cases, and cannot be bred from if they do not have a good 'score'. It can also be caused by trauma, but this is rare, particularly in Russells.

It can be operated on but most dogs learn to live with it.

Thanks for your answers, will let you know x x
Just wanted to say sorry caveman, I thought this was a post about silly things jack russells do and not about them being ill. Sorry if I came across as massively insensitive!
Some dogs do it all their life and it doesn't bother them.
Its only really if you are planning to breed that you need to take it into account, for instance if you mated two dogs together that both have luxating patellas you have far more chance of passing it on and it being more serious in the pups.
