Hi guys, I'm new to this site, and really need some advice - why is my car making a screeching noise that only stops for the few seconds that I put the clutch in, once it warms up it tends to stop screeching. AA guy said its cam belt, somone else said it's the fan belt. Funds are tight, and as a female I don't want to be ripped off as has happened to me previously by a garage.

Sounds like your fan belt needs tightening.
how old is your car and how many miles has it done,oh and also what is the make?
Sorry, ignore the bit about the make , I missed that . Apart from a loose belt it could be the clutch release bearing, best to get it checked out by a reputable garage, good luck

Thanx for your help guys. Can't get her looked at until the end of next week, and now I'm having trouble with the battery going flat, been jump started twice now.........is this also likely to be down to the screeching , is it likely to be draining the battery? Most of the journeys I make are pretty short ones. Any advice to keep me mobile until she goes for repair would be greatly appreciated. Battery is 18months old.
